How to boost your body energy: feed your mitochondria

The production of your body’s energy takes place in the mitochondrion of each cell. Mitochondrion are organelles in each of the cells, with the specific purpose of converting fat, protein and carbohydrate from food we eat into energy.

You might be wondering how to boost your body energy, that feeling of strength and vitality both mental and physical.

When your mitochondria is not functioning optimally, the result is cellular damage leading to accelerated ageing or disease.

Here's what mitochondria love ..

  • Eat whole foods that contain a diverse range of vitamins, minerals, omega-3 fatty acids, and phytonutrients as found in plant based food.

  • Specific nutrient rich foods such as vitamin E (wheatgerm), selenium (brazil nuts x 2/d), vitamin C (citrus, green leafy vegetables), coenzyme Q10, lipoic acid to name a few can protect mitochondria from damage.

  • Exercise: step up the cross-training, alternating aerobic and anaerobic to help strengthen mitochondria function and improve cellular energy and function.

Adjusting your diet to one that is plant-based and a modest calorie reduction has also shown positive impact in mitochondrial biogenesis and the ultimate feeling of boosting your body energy - strength and vitality.
